Shane McMahon has turned his back on The Miz after the pair failed to regain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at Fastlane.

It took some persuading from The Miz to get Shane McMahon to form a tag team with him. The Awesome One managed it eventually, however, and their run got off to a better start than either of them could have imagined. The pair became SmackDown Tag Team Champions, making The Miz's dad extremely proud in the process.

Despite clearing that first hurdle with relative ease, Miz and McMahon stumbled and fell at the next one. Their first title defense came against The Usos at Elimination Chamber and the inexperienced tandem lost the titles shortly after winning them. Even though contractually obligated rematches apparently aren't a thing in WWE anymore, Miz and McMahon got a rematch at Fastlane.

Sadly for fans of the former champions, their rematch went as poorly as their failed title defense. With Shane O Mac clearly shaken on the apron, Miz was effectively left to fend for himself. Despite a vested effort, he was eventually pinned and his quest to impress his dad in his own hometown ended in failure. The A-Lister then admirably helped up his weary tag partner and went about getting him back to the locker room.

That's when McMahon struck. As the two of them staggered past Mr. Miz in the front row, Shane O Mac knocked the former WWE Champion to the floor and proceeded to unleash a vicious attack. Every now and again McMahon would check to make sure Miz's dad was watching. Granted, the father didn't exactly show much emotion as he watched on, but he isn't a professional actor like his talented son.

Most fans probably had a gut feeling that this tag team was going to end in tears prior to WrestleMania. It was just a question of which one of them was going to turn on the other. On Tuesday night, the build to a Miz versus McMahon match at WrestleMania 35 can truly begin. It should also be noted that we now seem to have two heel McMahons and two babyface ones as well. That might well play into the dynamic as WrestleMania grows ever closer.
