FIFA has been handing out strange fines left, right, and center recently and England is the latest to fall foul of the governing body's rules.

It's no secret that FIFA isn't exactly the most well-liked organization in the sporting world. The fact that the World Cup is actually taking place in Russia right now has been a controversial topic ever since it was announced that the nation would play host to the tournament. There were some who suggested corruption and bribery may have played a part in Russia earning the right to host, and the same goes for Qatar in 2022.

All of that being said, the World Cup in Russia has been a massive success. The tournament has been one of the most entertaining and intriguing in World Cup history and on Sunday it will come to a close as France take on Croatia in the final. Even though FIFA has chalked up a win by staging a successful World Cup in Russia, it has still been making enemies.

This time it has been doing so by dishing out a number of pretty steep fines. Most of them relate to players at the tournament advertising companies and products that are not official FIFA sponsors. The latest team to fall foul of this is the recently eliminated England. According to Sky Sports, a handful of English players were told not to wear Trusox socks over their official Nike socks. The players in question ignored those warnings and FIFA has decided to fine the English FA $66,000.

England isn't the only side to have felt FIFA's wrath at this World Cup. Uruguay was fined $55,000 by the governing body for showing up at a stadium late. The Croatian FA also received a fine for advertising a beer that wasn't Budweiser, the official beer of the World Cup. FIFA is clearly feeling the heat from companies who it has partnered up with for this World Cup.

The Croatian players likely won't be sweating that fine at this moment in time though. On Wednesday, Luka Modric and his fellow players defeated England to make it to Croatia's first ever World Cup final. France stands in the way of them winning the World Cup for the first time in the country's history, and defeating them will not be easy when they square off in Moscow on Sunday.
