A revolutionary tag team tournament has been taking place in the WWE over the past couple of months, and as things are beginning to wind down, the final few matchups are starting to take shape. The Mixed Match Challenge is a concept where one male Superstar and one female Superstar are paired in a weekly tournament. We’ve already seen one team make its way to the finals, but before that match takes place, a vote was held to see one eliminated team get another shot.

The vote, which took place until the end of the week ten episode, promised a return for the team of Finn Balor and Sasha Banks, who were eliminated in Week 7 by Asuka and The Miz. Each week a new match is highlighted, with team FinnSasha’s loss coming at the start of the quarterfinal round.

Each 25 minute episode of the challenge is aired on Facebook Watch and contains highlights of the teams prior to the match. The winners of the tournament will have $100,000 donated to the charity that they represent, with all of the other teams each receiving $10,000 for their charities. Each match pits teams from both the Raw and SmackDown brands, with the overall winner presumably holding bragging rights over the other.

The WWE has always prided themselves on their involvement in the community, having donated millions of dollars over the years to various charities. In a bit of a twist, this time they decided to incorporate their donations into a series of matches, a unique format that provides funds to several organizations at one time.

To some, this may come off as the company being very pretentious, using humanitarian causes as a front to garner viewership. However, their hearts are in the right place. It did come as a bit of a shock that Finn and Sasha got the nod as opposed to fan favorite couple Rusev and Lana, or even a more cohesive team such as Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch. Either way, this level of interaction shines the light on what those charitable organizations do, and if the WWE can gain some publicity and ratings from all of this, then all the power to them.
