Former Impact star Abyss was backstage at WWE's live episode of Raw on Monday cementing his hire and providing a sign of things to come when it comes to his employment with the company.

It was reported a while back that Abyss (Chris Parks) had been granted his release by Impact Wrestling to pursue other opportunities. Those opportunities were rumored to be as a backstage producer/trainer for WWE. He was one of many hires including Jeff Jarrett, Shawn Daivari, Sonjay Dutt and Gregory Helms (The Hurricane).

Then according to a report by PWInsider, Parks worked tonight's RAW from the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was confirmed as true when Helms shared a photo of the two on social media.

After it was reported he had been hired, the immediate assumption was that Parks would work behind-the-scenes with WWE NXT and the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, or possibly the NXT UK brand. If this photo is any indication, he's either working directly with the NXT talents that debuted on Raw tonight, or he's working on the main roster helping on the company's flagship show.

What This Means

Clearly, Raw went in a different direction on Monday. With no advance notice (beyond a few hours) that NXT talents like Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and Aleister Black would be debuting, this was apparently also a debut for Parks with WWE as a main roster producer. Either that or he was watching and getting an idea of what things will look like when he helps on Mondays.

This acquisition is a big one for WWE who can access all the experience Abyss has to offer as the longest-tenured star during Impact's history as a wrestling company. He began with TNA back in 2002 and left in 2019 when they granted him his release.
