Rey Mysterio, who is about as close to Cain Velasquez as anyone is in the world of sports entertainment, has said he's not entirely sure what's going on with his friend, but that he could make a return to WWE.

Mysterio was recently interviewed by Ariel Helwani. During the interview, Rey Mysterio hinted that we could see former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez return to WWE. He said while he's not about to dig into what exactly happened between WWE and Velasquez that saw the UFC fighter released, Mysterio said, "I do know for a fact that he’s very dedicated." He added, that Velasquez is passionate about Lucha Libre and wrestling and it was a dream of his to be part of WWE. He added, "I honestly don’t think that he’s gone for good."

Mysterio said that he believes, at some point, Velasquez will return to WWE and that he's too big a star not to be utilized. Mysterio explained:

"I think he’s gonna make an appearance and a comeback, and it’s very hard to put a mask on someone that has created their own history within the UFC, like Cain. I think the best thing for him was to wrestle without a mask."

Why It Didn't Work The First Time

If Velasquez has been working on his skills since leaving WWE, there's a good chance WWE will find a use for him in the future. The former UFC star made a surprise debut in WWE last year at SmackDown's 20th anniversary show, but his tenure with WWE didn't last long.

Velasquez attacked Brock Lesnar then lost handily to the Beast Incarnate at a Crown Jewel show. He did not wrestle another match for WWE after that loss. He suffered an injury, which kept him out of the Royal Rumble and was later release due to COVID-19 budget cuts.
