The New York Giants' decision to fire head coach Ben McAdoo and replace him with Pat Shurmur hasn't changed the team's fortunes.

New York was embarrassed 34-13 at home to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, dropping their record to 1-5. The Giants fired McAdoo after a sluggish 2-10 last season, but it looks like the coaching doesn't appear to be the problem in the Big Apple.

Los Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Geno Smith - who played for the Giants last season - took to Twitter and demanded fans in New York offer an apology to McAdoo.

McAdoo received criticism for benching starting quarterback Eli Manning in favor of Smith in Week 13 of last season. The decision ended Manning's streak of 210 consecutive games; only Brett Favre had a better streak of 297 games.

McAdoo was hired as thethe Giant's offensive cordinator in 2014, and he helped Manning rebound after a sluggish 2013 season. He was promoted to head coach in 2016, leading the Giants to 11 wins and a playoff berth. But McAdoo got fired before the 2017 season came to an end, and the Giants hoped that Shurmur - the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator last year - could turn the team around.

The Giants gave Odell Beckham Jr. a massive extension and drafted top running back prospect Saquon Barkley, opting not to find Manning's successor in a QB-heavy draft class.

But the Giants are still struggling mightily on offense, and Manning hasn't rebounded with a coaching change. So Smith is in the right to essentially point out that McAdoo wasn't the problem last year.

Manning turns 38 years of age in the new year, and the Giants look destined to land a top-five pick in the 2019 draft. That could very well mean finding their next franchise quarterback and cutting ties with the two-time Super Bowl MVP and champion.
