Retirement speculation has surrounded Goldberg for several years now, but it doesn't sound like the former Universal Champion will call it a career any time soon.

In an interview on The Pop Culture Show (h/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful.com), Goldberg revealed that he's signed with WWE through 2023. The deal consists of two matches a year, which he already honored for this year.

He didn't reveal many details, but Goldberg said he has "other extremely interest projects right on the cusp" and "a lot of cool things that people are going to find out about pretty soon."

In his first match for 2020, Goldberg defeated "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt at Super ShowDown to become the new Universal Champion.

The plan was for him to drop the title to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36, but the latter removed himself from the show due to safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He was replaced by Braun Strowman, who defeated Goldberg to win the title.

With that, Goldberg's two matches for 2020 were used up quickly, and we won't see him back in the ring until 2021.

In 2019, Goldberg's two matches consisted of bouts with The Undertaker (Super ShowDown) and Dolph Ziggler (SummerSlam 2019). The Hall of Famer didn't wrestle at all in 2018, which led to retirement speculation.

WWE hasn't used part-time wrestlers much during the COVID-19 pandemic. Brock Lesnar has been kept off of television since losing the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36. Triple H was also absent from this year's WrestleMania card, and he's yet to wrestle at all in 2020.

Who Should Goldberg Wrestle Next?

WWE spent valuable time planning out a Reigns-Goldberg match at WrestleMania, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they tried to run it at some point in 2021. If not Reigns, the likes of AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens come to mind as intriguing opponents for Goldberg. Ideally, WWE would pit him against a full-time and top-tier superstar instead of another part-timer.
