Goldust recently recalled the moment that Vince McMahon first explained to him what his character in WWE was going to be.

There are a number of Superstars currently under contract in WWE who have been loyal servants to Vince McMahon and have become pretty big stars along the way. The likes of Kane, The Undertaker, and Big Show. Even Chris Jericho to a certain extent, although the IWGP Intercontinental Champion is obviously off exploring other avenues at this moment in time.

One man who is all too often overlooked is Goldust, and he is far more active for WWE than any of the names mentioned above. Goldust started his career with WWE more than 20 years ago yet he is still a semi-regular on Raw. Despite spending all that time with the company and breaking the mold in a number of different ways, the highest pinnacle he has ever reached is that of Intercontinental Champion.

As strange a sentence as this may sound like, Goldust obviously hasn't always been Goldust. Before he donned the wig and the black and gold paint, he was simply known as Dustin Rhodes, or 'The Natural'. During a recent episode of WWE Photo Shoot, Goldust discussed the phone call he received from Mr. McMahon explaining to him what he had planned for his future.

"I hung up the phone, and immediately I ran to the dictionary and looked up androgynous. And my jaw dropped, 'What did I just get myself into?" Goldust revealed. He also explained that he was open to the idea because he wanted to drop the Rhodes name and carve his own path in the business, to step out from the shadow of his extremely famous wrestling father, Dusty Rhodes.

Even though Goldust has been wrestling for 30 years and will be 50 next year, physically the WWE veteran looks better than ever. He may not be on Raw every week but that is undoubtedly by design. He is used sparingly and that has contributed to the longevity of his career. If WWE carries on using him in the way that they do currently, who knows how long he could remain a valuable asset for.
