Hacksaw Jim Duggan has opened up about the series of events that led to him spending Thanksgiving weekend in the ICU.

Due to the nature of the business, especially when you go back a few decades, hearing that a wrestler has passed away is sadly pretty commonplace. This past summer it almost felt as if you couldn't check Twitter without discovering another former wrestler had passed away. Jim Neidhart and Brian Christopher were just two of the names from the past that passed away this year.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, it seemed as if we might be about to lose another. WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Duggan revealed on social media that he was in the hospital. Not just that, but the photo he posted featured him hooked up to a lot of machines in the ICU. Duggan was smiling and with his family, but it still must have been pretty serious for him to be in the ICU.

What Duggan didn't explain in the post was why exactly he ended up in the hospital for the weekend. Understandable as he probably had bigger things on his mind like getting better and getting home. Well, good news. Duggan has recovered enough to leave the hospital and recently caught up with TMZ Sports so he could explain the whole situation to fans.

It turns out a few days before Thanksgiving, Duggan felt some tightness in his chest. He assumed that it was just his torn pec, an injury from earlier on in his career that he never got fixed. By Tuesday the situation had worsened, and Duggan's wife told him it was time to go to the hospital for an EKG. There, he discovered he had gone into afib. Duggan described the situation as terrifying as more and more doctors poured into the room to perform tests.

Duggan's take-home message from this ordeal was how unimportant everything else becomes when you go through something like he did. Money, work, bills, none of that mattered. All he cared about was getting better for his wife and daughters. An important message for everyone to take heed of, and hopefully one most people will learn without having to go through what Hacksaw did.
