As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Carmelo Anthony has cleared waivers. He is expected to imminently sign with the Houston Rockets.

It has been reported for some time that Anthony would become a free agent. After he opted-in to his deal with Oklahoma, the Thunder traded him to the Atlanta Hawks who worked on a buyout option or another way to move his contract from the team. He was waived and it was believed at his salary he would clear with no issues. That has happened and Anthony is now officially an NBA free agent, free to sign with whatever team he chooses.

If most of the reports are true, it appears he is hours away from signing a contract with the Houston Rockets. The deal will be worth a reported. $2.4 million.

News on Wednesday further that speculation as the Rockets sent the expiring contract of Chinanu Onuaku to the Dallas Mavericks freeing up another $1.54 million in cap space and lowering the club to 10 contracts — a move to make more room for Anthony's salary.

The Rockets are likely the best fit for Anthony but rumors still surround the player and the team in terms of what role he'll be playing. Recent comments by Carmelo suggest he's still not interested in coming off the bench of being a "role player", instead, expecting to be a contributor with Chris Paul and James Harden. Some have wondered if this is the same role Houston expects Anthony to play.

It will be interesting to see if Anthony can perform at the level he thinks he can. The team seems to believe in him as both Harden and Paul have publicly stated their willingness to embrace Anthony and that he'll be a welcome addition.

It looks like the three players already have some chemistry as they've been working out and playing pickup games together. They look fairly dangerous.
