WWE received over $1 million from Facebook for the Mixed Match Challenge earlier this year, charging the social media platform $100,000 per episode.

WWE is a front runner when it comes to social media. While many fans point towards Raw and SmackDown Live's sinking TV ratings, the success of their YouTube channel and other social media accounts continues to rise. In some ways Vince McMahon is rightfully accused of being stuck in the past, however, in others, he should be given credit for his forward thinking.

All of that being said, WWE's recent foray into the world of social media received mixed reviews, at best. We are of course talking about the Mixed Match Challenge. The series ran for twelve episodes live on Facebook Watch and featured mixed gender tag team matches during short, 20-minute episodes. The ratings weren't exactly what either WWE or Facebook were expecting though.

It wasn't all bad for WWE though. Dave Meltzer revealed recently, via Wrestling Observer Radio, that Facebook paid the pro wrestling promotion $100,000 for each episode of MMC. That means they picked up a cool $1.2 million for the entire series. Even with the $100,000 that the winners of the tournament won for a charity of their choice, that still left WWE with more than $1 million of Facebook money.

The winners of the MMC were The Miz and Asuka. The pairing, who were Raw Superstars at the time but have since been traded to Tuesday nights, defeated Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode, also known as The Robe Warriors, in the final. The Empress and The Awesome One decided to donate their $100,000 of prize money to Rescue Dogs Rock, a New York City-based charity dedicated to helping abused and at-risk dogs.

With that much money on the line for a show that strictly streams online, WWE will want to stage it again, or at least something similar. Changes will have to be made though as Facebook will not want to fork out that much money again for a show which struggled to pull in fans. Another factor is the reach of Facebook Watch since the platform is currently not available to fans worldwide.
