Rey Mysterio may be the one former WWE Superstar working outside WWE right now that fans would hope drops what he's doing to make a WWE return. The only one who might not be so keen to do so without the right incentive is Rey Mysterio, who is making fantastic money touring the indie scene and working for multiple promotions. His speculated salary was just released and it's no wonder he's not in a huge hurry to get back.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Mysterio is earning anywhere “between ten and twenty grand” for every indie appearance he makes.

This is great news for Mysterio who is raking in big bucks per appearance and also been quite busy. If the numbers are accurate and Mysterio is working 40-45 shows per year, the numbers add up to just under $1 million working a much lighter schedule and being the main draw for a number of these promotions.

WWE is keenly interested in having Mysterio back and in a recent interview with ESPN, Mysterio said the feeling was mutual but that the sticking point is that he doesn't want to work more than two times per week. That rules him out for most live events as he'd be available only for one of the weekly shows and pay-per-views.

This would also mean that WWE would have to be willing to pay at least a downside of $900K to $1 million per year to get Mysterio to stop doing what he's currently doing. So the question becomes, is Mysterio worth a million bucks per year to work only 104 times?

Guys like Brock Lesnar are making far more than that for far less work so the optics of that kind of contract do exist. But, WWE will have to consider how much of a draw Mysterio actually is and where having him under a part-time contract benefits them.
