Former NXT Tag Team Champion Eric Young, who was recently interviewed by SiriusXM’s Busted Open, says the WWE’s system is “broken.” Although he praised his time as a member of SAnitY with Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain and Nikki Cross, he now says that backstage politics left him disillusioned with the organization.

Young returned to Impact at Slammiversary on July 18 in a five-way match for the Impact World Championship where he defeated Trey before being eliminated by Rich Swann. In retrospect, he places the blame for WWE’s dysfunction on Vince McMahon, who he says operates on a series of secret rules that change each day. The four-time world tag team champion adds that it’s hard to understand “what’s going on and why it’s going on.”

Although he says McMahon always showed him respect when they met, Young felt there was a condescension in his treatment of wrestlers by having them wait for hours for a five-minute meeting. He insists that McMahon made a mistake by not responding to his concerns.

“Your show is broken. It’s as simple as that. I’ve proven that I can do whatever. Any role. I’m not saying I can do it. I’ve already done it and I’ve proven that I can do it and do it very well. So, for me, it’s a huge miss. A huge mistake. And now it’s someone else’s gain. And, personally, it’s my gain. My soul hasn’t felt this good in a long time. That’s just the truth,” Young says.

Young, who feels that his years with WWE were discarded by the organization, feels sorry for all of the creative people behind WWE. He says that their work is undervalued and disregarded. After years of frustration, he says he began to lose his love of wrestling while working for the promotion and stopped watching wrestling altogether. Now the love of the sport has returned and Young, who won 11 championships during his career with Impact, is looking forward to growing the promotion again.

Young got his start in 2004 with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), now Impact Wrestling, as a member of Team Canada. Considered a TNA Original, he left the promotion in 2016 after 12 years. That same year, he made his debut as the leader of the stable SAnitY. In 2018, the stable was drafted by the SmackDown brand as part of the Superstar Shake-up.
