Io Shirai lived up to the label of best women's wrestler in the world given to her by Triple H by becoming NXT Women's Champion at In Your House.

2019's Survivor Series kicked off the WWE careers of a couple of NXT Superstars. Most notably, Keith Lee and Rhea Ripley. Both have not only gone on to have other impacts on the main roster but have also held gold in NXT. While Lee has managed to keep hold of his championship including a successful defense at In Your House this weekend, Ripley was not so lucky.

The Aussie lost the NXT Women's Title to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania in what might well have been the best match of the weekend. Since then, Ripley has had to try and hold back Io Shirai while also trying to regain the title from Flair. All of that tussling led to TakeOver this weekend where all three women competed for the title.

When it was revealed during the show that the Women's Title match would be saved for the main event slot, many fans will have smelled a title change. And a title change is what they got. Flair had the Figure 8 locked in on Ripley as Shirai ascended the turnbuckle. The Japanese star then hit a moonsault on Ripley before Flair could make her tap.

The impact forced The Queen to break the submission, at which point Shirai covered Ripley to pick up the win. The win could mean a lot of different things for the direction of the Women's Title. Flair has been working all three brands, and now that she is no longer champion in NXT, she might well return to Raw, or perhaps even join the SmackDown roster going forward.

As for what's next for Shirai, although we would love to see her and Ripley continue to fight, there is a long line of talented Superstars waiting for a shot. Six of them competed in a tag team match at In Your House. Ripley might get one more shot, but if she slips up again, she might have a long wait until she competes for the title again. Who knows? With all the call-ups rumored right now, maybe she will follow Flair out of the NXT exit.
