The Indianapolis Colts were among the NFL's most consistent teams from 2002 to 2014,  winning double-digit games and making the playoffs every year except 2011 - reaching four AFC Championship Games and winning one Super Bowl.

When franchise icon Peyton Manning went down with a neck injury and missed all of 2011, the Colts wound up selecting generational star Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in 2012, and mutually parted ways with 'The Sheriff', who would sign with the Denver Broncos.

But the once great franchise has been among the NFL's most dysfunctional over the last three years. Friction between the front office and coaches were one thing, but Luck's injury woes have killed this team's championship window.

He missed the second half of 2015 with a kidney injury, and had to sit out all of 2017 after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. We don't know yet if Luck will play in 2018, but owner Jim Irsay is promising his fans that a turnaround is in order.

"A great renaissance period is about to unfold upon us," Irsay said, via Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.

The Colts face a steep climb to the top again, as their offensive line and defense were among the NFL's worst last year. On top of that, the once putrid AFC South now features three legitimate playoff contenders in the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.

That being said, Luck carried very flawed Colts teams to the playoffs with matching 11-5 records in 2012, 2013 and 2014. When healthy, he's a top-five quarterback in the NFL, and can mask the flaws on his team.

The Colts certainly need a lot to go right over the next couple of years if they are about to see a "great renaissance," but this is a team that went from two wins in 2011 to 11 the next. We've seen some great renaissances from the Colts before, so why shouldn't they be able to do it again, if Luck is healthy?
