John Tavares' uncle may have been the unfortunate recipient of the backlash from Islanders' fans who weren't happy his nephew chose to move on in his hockey career.

John Tavares (the NHL player) made a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans happy when he signed on July 1, 2018, but in the process, devastated a number of New York Islanders fans who were hoping and praying he'd continue his career in New York and with a team that desperately needed him. When Tavares chose to leave, some fans didn't take to the news so well.

One fan decided to update Tavares' uncle's Wikipedia page and relabeling how the two were related. While still described as his uncle, John Tavares' page now reads, "This article is about the lacrosse player. For his nephew, the professional snake John Tavares (ice hockey)."

You can see a photo of the page below in a tweet posted by David Alter.

Of course, it is expected that Tavares's decision to leave the Islanders and join the Maple Leafs will come under some scrutiny, especially from the Islanders faithful. Tavares has only ever played for the Islanders and he was almost the only reason worth watching Islanders games over the past decade. His exit leaves the team scattered and trying to remain competitive but lacking a true number one center.

Meanwhile, his leaving makes an already often-hated Maple Leaf's team even more detestable. The Leaf's center depth is arguably the best in the NHL and it can be argued they didn't need his services but won over the player who chose to go home and play for a city he grew up in.

The Leafs are now expected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, if not the entire NHL while the Islanders might be lucky to make the postseason and have to consider a rebuild. It's no wonder some fans might take things a little too far.
