James Storm teased a return to WWE this past weekend, three years on from his very brief stint in NXT.

The sheer amount of former Impact Wrestling talent currently occupying top spots in WWE is something to behold. There was a time when Vince McMahon wouldn't have even considered wrestlers who were made famous by Impact, however, one of the promotion's biggest exports is currently WWE Champion. Not to mention, AJ Styles' main rival Samoa Joe is also an Impact alum.

There were even reports last week that WWE and Impact will be working together sometime soon. Executives from the latter admitted to having a meeting at WWE HQ a couple of weeks ago. It won't be the first time the two promotions have cooperated together recently either. Impact allowed WWE to use some of its footage for their recent Hardy Boyz DVD.

One former Impact star that WWE doesn't seem to be able to get their hands on, at least not permanently, is James Storm. Storm is very much an Impact veteran, wrestling with the company for almost all of the past 16 years. He took a brief break in 2015 during which time he wrestled a couple of matches in NXT. However, the Cowboy opted to re-sign with Impact rather than finding out what else WWE had in store for him.

The WWE door may not necessarily be closed for good on Storm, however. The former Impact World Champion tweeted a photo of himself over the weekend stood alongside someone wearing a WWE Network t-shirt. Storm appears to be contemplating something in the picture. He is currently not under contract with Impact and has been wrestling for ICW this year, a British company that has strong links with WWE.

If Storm is indeed on his way back to WWE, this time for a longer run, it will be interesting to see how he is used by the promotion. Perhaps due to his experience and age, he didn't like the idea of having to wrestle in NXT first. Maybe he has reached a deal that will see him come straight to the main roster, and perhaps we could even see him link up with his former Beer Money buddy, Bobby Roode.
