Jerry Lawler made an emotional return to the ring on Sunday night following the passing of his son, Brian Christopher.

Sunday, August 29, 2018, was an extremely sad day for the business of professional wrestling. No less than three wrestlers passed away, all on the same day. Brickhouse Brown, WWE Hall Of Famer Nikolai Volkoff, and Brian Christopher, better known to his fans as Grandmaster Sexay. The last of those deaths likely hit fans the hardest since Christopher was only 46, and he died by hanging himself in a jail cell.

A man who will have been hit infinitely harder by Christopher's untimely death is his father, WWE announcer and Memphis legend, Jerry 'The King' Lawler. While the Hall Of Famer has spoken since his son's passing, King has understandably been relatively quiet when it comes to appearances and social media over the past week. On Sunday night, however, he returned to in-ring action.

It takes a strong man to return to any line of work just a week after the tragic loss of a child, let alone a job where you have to perform for an audience. That's what Lawler does best though, and what he has done flawlessly for decades. This past Sunday, Lawler stepped between the ropes once again and went one-on-one with James Ellsworth in Jackson Tennessee.

While the expected comedy element was there, as you'd also expect it was a very emotional night for everyone involved. Lawler wore his son's vest to the ring for a match as a tribute to Christopher and also as a tribute to the wrestling character to he made famous, Grandmaster Sexay. After the match, Ellsworth took to Twitter and posted a photo of himself and Lawler embracing backstage, labeling the bout "the most emotional match of my career."

Considering Christopher's funeral only took place this past Friday, The King showed tremendous strength and bravery to return to wrestling so soon after his passing. While he doesn't have anything scheduled with WWE right away, it's a real possibility that we could see him at SummerSlam in a little less than two weeks from now. Lawler normally returns for big PPVs to be a part of the kickoff show panel or to call a match or two.
