Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Jimmy Butler is still in his prime and has stayed relatively healthy throughout his career, so retirement should be one of the last things on his mind right now.

However, the 29-year-old Butler already has a timeline on when he expects to retire from the NBA. In short, 76ers fans better enjoy Butler while they can, because he doesn't plan on pulling a Vince Carter and playing into his 40s.

"I don't plan on playing this game when I'm 35 years old," Butler said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompeyey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "So I'm not even worried about that. I'll be done with this game before I'm 35."

The All-Star guard wouldn't provide a more clear timeline than that, but that means he's planning to be out of the league by Sept. 14, 2024 - when Butler will be 35 years of age, so enjoy the two-way star while you can.

It's rare for NBA stars to retain a high level of play once they reach their mid-30s, so if Butler has become a declining commodity by then, retirement will be an easy choice. But should he continue to play at a high level, it's certainly possible that Butler will have a change of heart.

Back in June, Kevin Durant also said that he can envision retiring by age 35, while Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving claimed he hopes to retire somewhere from his "early-to-mid 30s."

What This Means

For these three superstars, retirement could indeed happen by the age of 35 if they struggle to stay healthy. In Irving's case, he was hampered by a knee injury for three years and underwent surgery last season.

Butler has stayed healthy for the bulk of his career, however. So as of now, it's hard to envision health being a factor when he decides it's time to hang them up. For now, the goal is for Butler to keep playing at a high level and try to win a championship with his new team.
