It's been a half-year since Jinder Mahal last held the WWE Championship before losing it to AJ Styles, and he has yet to re-enter the main event picture since.

The Modern Day Maharaja looked poised to go on a deep run and was even set to face Brock Lesnar in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series. However, he dropped the WWE Championship to Styles beforehand, and The Phenomenal One would face (and lose to), Lesnar instead.

Despite not regaining his spot atop the WWE card, Mahal still thinks highly of where he is right now. In a recent interview with Planeta Wrestling (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Mahal explained why he thinks he's the most dominant superstar in the WWE today.

"My goal is the WWE Universal Championship, but there is also many great competitors such as Roman Reigns, who I have my eyes on right now. He claims that Raw is his yard, I think differently. I think I am the most dominant superstar in WWE.

Right before I lost my title match against AJ Styles for the WWE Championship I was going to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, so now that I am on Raw that match is very possible for the Universal Championship.

It's a bold statement from Mahal, given his recent string of losses and the fact WWE pulled the plug on making him the next great WWE Champion. Mahal's title reign was heavily criticized by many, who didn't buy his in-ring work and ability to put on a high-quality mach.

Mahal did receive a major push in mid-2017, when he defeated Randy Orton at Backlash to become the new WWE Champion. He would go on to defend the title against other talents like Shinsuke Nakamura and even Baron Corbin - who wasted his Money in the Bank cash-in opportunity.

Mahal won the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34, but he lost it shortly afterwards to Jeff Hardy - who brought the title over to SmackDown Live after the Superstar Shake-Up.

There's no denying that Mahal has strong microphone skills, and that the creative team saw something special in him when they gave The Modern Day Maharaja a major push. But if he truly is the most dominant superstar in the WWE today, Mahal is going to have to go out there and back it up.
