Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has weighed in on the ongoing saga involving teammate Markelle Fultz.

The sophomore guard has been struggling on several fronts this season and has withdrawn from playing so his bothersome could be examined by a specialist. And, this week, it was also reported that there is an issue with one of his wrists too.

According to Sam Amick, Derek Bodner and Jared Weiss of The Athletic, the player is considering a fresh start with a new team and could be keen on a trade. However, his agent was quick to rubbish the claims.

Embiid, meanwhile, has seemingly implied that former general manager Bryan Colangelo did not support Fultz last season. Colangelo has since been dismissed by the team, with Elton Brand stepping up to fulfill the role as GM during the summer, and the center feels the player is getting adequate backing now.

"Last year I said that I felt like a lot of people didn't have his back. And, you know, that was with the previous management," he was quoted as saying by Bodner following the Sixer's marginal win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.

" But I feel like everybody has been trying to do their job helping."

"He's been playing really well. Coming off the bench, coming in and doing his job. I love playing with him. We have something going on, especially on the pick and roll...He has a lot of potential and I just gotta keep doing my job and trying to help him."

Embiid is no stranger to Fultz's problems, having spent both his rookie and sophomore seasons out injured. And he says he has been doing his part to help the stricken guard.

"I thought I went through it my first two years, but this is different," he added. "I don't know. Honestly, I don't know what is going on and I'm just a player on the 76ers...All I can do is try to help him and give him good advice."

What This Means

Embiid's comments seem to suggest that there is something going on behind the scenes. But sending Fultz to another team would probably be best for both parties. It sure beats playing in the G League, and there is talk that it could happen.

The arrival of Jimmy Butler has further compounded the player's woes in Philadelphia and he could even lose his spot as the team's backup point guard to T.J. McConnell.

He'd really have no reason to stay put after that, but Philly could find it difficult to move him on as he's got very little trade value at the moment.
