For years, fans have begged for a John Cena heel turn, but he doesn't think that would make them happy.

To say John Cena is a busy man would be an understatement. While he's no longer a full-time competing talent in the WWE, 2016-17 was a fantastic season career-wise for Cena who wound up landing numerous parts in a number of high-profile films. Like "The Rock" before him, it appears Cena is taking off in Hollywood and his star is shining brighter than ever.

With a new film called Ferdinand set to be released the same weekend as Star Wars, he's doing some promotional press junkets for the film and in a recent interview with Digital Spy, he discussed his new movie, among other things wrestling related.

The fact that Ferdinand is a family movie led naturally into a discussion about his character being family friendly and more wholesome in a PG era of the WWE. The interviewer asked Cena's thoughts about the elusive John Cena heel turn, and he had a quick response.

"So many times in WWE, the audience tells me – at the top of their lungs – that they want me to change. But over the years I've learned that, if I change, they'll just rag on me about something else. I'm never gonna please them and, at the same time, I would be turning my back on those that I care about. So it couldn't have been a better situation for me to be involved with this movie."

In one swift response, this was about as heel as Cena has been toward the fans in years and perhaps the closest they'll get to see him rag on the fans who are so mixed in their reactions toward him.

Cena had no qualms about suggesting that no matter what he does the fans will find a reason to boo him. So, with that in mind, Cena decided a long time ago not to act in response to fans, but to what he feels is right for him and his current career path.

He also suggested that fans don't know the real John Cena. Understanding the "you can't see me" hand gesture got him to where he is now, he's had trouble showing the audience there's more than just a hand that makes Cena who he is. He explained, "it's always a challenge to let people know that there's a little more to me."

Cena will be making a return shortly to the WWE and is being advertised for both the SmackDown Live and Raw brands. Not that there was ever any doubt, but expect it to be a babyface Cena that returns—sorry guys, don't expect a John Cena heel turn here. He's rumored to be answering the Roman Reigns Intercontinental Title challenge and then will be trying one more time to regain the Heavyweight Title and hold the record for most reigns as the champion by any singles wrestler in history.
