It was revealed this past weekend that John Cena and Nikki Bella were ending their six-year relationship when they publicly announced their intention to split. The immediate thought was that Cena was too busy or Bella was too needy, but no one really knows the real reason for the break-up.

"While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another," is all they said in a statement to Us Weekly's Emily Longeretta. "We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."

It hasn't stopped people from wondering what's going on, however. Normally, we'd leave relationships alone and let the wounds heal, but since both sides made a public announcement, it seems only fair to open it up for discussion.

Here are the best theories as to why John Cena and Nikka Bella broke. up.

Cena Way Too Busy

via: comicbook.com

Anyone can see that John Cena is skyrocketing in popularity. He's stepping away from WWE more and more to further his Hollywood aspirations and it's working. He's landing new roles in films repeatedly and it's going to keep him busy.

While many movie stars make relationships work, Cena may view this as a time to solely focus on his work, and if that's the case, Nikki is going to get left behind. He may have decided that his priority isn't Nikki and that's always a tough decision.

He Never Really Wanted This

It's also not a secret John Cena wasn't big on the idea of getting married, and he certainly wasn't keen on the idea of having kids. He was making the "sacrifice" because he knew how badly Nikki wanted those things, but Cena never appeared excited about the idea.

When he proposed at WrestleMania 33, people saw the segment coming, but many wondered if it was just for show. He said all the right things, but it felt like interviews and public appearances suggested something else.

In an article by popculture.com, "He talked a really good game about having changed, about having his priorities straight, about knowing what’s important and that it was her. But as the day got closer, it was like he just went back to who he’s always been — which is someone who puts himself first, always.” “He’s an incredibly dedicated, driven, ambitious guy. And for the longest time, he said he didn’t think he had room in his life for a spouse or kids. It seems like in the end, that was still the truth.”

They Were Both Too Demanding

via instinctmagazine.com

Anyone who has watched Total Divas and Total Bellas knows that John Cena and Nikki Bella are the easiest people to get along with. It often seemed like they might be the only two people who could handle each other.

Cena had crazy rules and Nikki was extremely high maintenance. These are tendencies which were likely only being tolerable because neither saw each other very often. This could have been a situation where the two sides just weren't meant to make it long term and as this news shows, apparently, they didn't.

Cold Feet

via maxim.com

The most likely answer to all of this is that John Cena simply got cold feet. It happens with the best of couples, and it seemed clear there was a good chance it was going to happen with Cena who appeared never ready to make the big leap he was intending to make.

The two were set to wed on May 6, 2018,  in Mexico and that was right around the corner. As things got closer and Cena could have realized what he was about to commit to, it could have been a situation where Cena simply bailed.

Cena was often known as a ladies man when he first made it to WWE. Imagine the number of women he was looking at giving up when he was about to become a huge movie star. Sometimes the easiest explanation is the right one.
