Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins said that John Gibbons will finish the rest of 2018 as manager of the team before they make a decision on his future, per Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Rumors over the past couple of weeks suggested that the Blue Jays were preparing to let Gibbons go before 2018 ended. But the 56-year-old will get at least a few more weeks on the job, then the Blue Jays will make a difficult decision as to whether or not he deserves another chance.

The Blue Jays are headed for a consecutive losing and non-playoff season, and many veteran players were dealt away at the trade deadline. Throw in the call-ups of prospects Sean Reid-Foley and Danny Jansen, plus the rising stardom of Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and it's no kept secret that Toronto is headed for rebuilding mode.

In an interview with MLB Radio last week, Gibbons admitted that the Blue Jays were headed for a rebuild, and that he wasn't interested in going through one of those. On top of that, 'Gibby' admitted that "a fresh face" may be beneficial for the team as they transition towards a younger and faster roster.

So even though Atkins claimed they'll evaluate Gibbons and his future after the season, early signs indicate that somebody else will come in to lead the the Blue Jays next season. Today, new managers are being hired for their knowledge of the analytics and advanced stats, which is obviously completely different from the old-school management of Gibbons.

The Blue Jays will have significant payroll cut for 2018 as veterans Marco Estrada, Curtis Granderson and Josh Donaldson prepare to hit free agency. Whether or not Toronto decides to add more veteran or stick with the rebuild remains to be seen.

But for now, it sounds like Gibbons is about to enter the final month as Blue Jays manager, barring a major change of mind from the front office.
