With Tomasso Ciampa now injured, Johnny Gargano could well land on 205 Live once WrestleMania weekend is out of the way.
Last December, the McMahon family promised us a shakeup. The biggest part of that shakeup to date seems to have been some rather panicked NXT Call-ups, most of which have since fallen flat. The only two stars to have really made an impact are Aleister Black and Ricochet. The talented pair continue to compete on Raw and SmackDown Live pretty much every week.
What's unfortunate is the case of Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. Although WWE was aware of Ciampa's neck issue, the belief was that he could make it to WrestleMania weekend. That has obviously not been the case. Ciampa has already undergone surgery and we haven't seen Gargano on the main roster since. On the bright side, he will compete for the NXT Title at NXT TakeOver: New York.
If Bryan Alvarez's claims on Wrestling Observer Live turn out to be true, then Gargano won't be winning his match versus Adam Cole. Alvarez reported that WWE has been considering placing Gargano on the 205 Live roster now that Ciampa is injured. He obviously fits the bill when it comes to his size, but we can't imagine it being a decision most fans would be happy with.
Since being signed by NXT, Gargano has become one of those wrestlers who is smaller in stature that can definitely compete with bigger opponents. The kind of performer who falls into the same bracket as wrestlers like Daniel Bryan and Finn Balor. However, Vince McMahon might still want to make a go of it on 205 Live. Giving the brand someone with the talent of Gargano would hopefully bring more eyes to the product.
Ever since the launch of 205 Live, WWE seems to be at something of a loss as to what to do with it. We will always see it as a show that should have been an extension of the Cruiserweight Classic. Taped at Full Sail in front of an audience that has paid to see it. Until such a time, we can't imagine it ever becoming what Mr. McMahon wants it to be, with or without Gargano.
