Johnny Gargano's Recent Hat Tip To DIY Did Not Go Unnoticed

Johnny Gargano recently tweeted a hint that he may be open to getting DIY back together, and Tomasso Ciampa has responded.

Did you notice Johnny Gargano's hint on Twitter that he might be reuniting DIY? Tomasso Ciampa certainly did.

In 2017, as DIY, Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa put on some of the best tag team matches NXT has ever seen. In 2018, the two of them put on three separate candidates for match of the year opposite of each other. The vicious rivalry between the two throughout the last calendar year has been some of the best stuff offered up by WWE in recent years.

The frustration caused by Gargano losing back to back matches to Ciampa came to a head towards the end of the year. Johnny Wrestling eventually revealed to the world that it was he who attacked Aleister Black, thus turning heel in the process. Since then, he has had a couple of matches with The Dutch Destroyer that have also been candidates for match of the year.

The latter took place inside of a steel cage, and the ending may have been even more shocking than Gargano's initial turn. Ciampa came to the ring and attacked Black, giving Gargano a chance to escape the cage and win the match. Instead, the former NXT Tag Team Champion returned to the ring so that he and Ciampa could finish Black off together, using their old finisher from the pair's DIY days.

While it is still unclear what Gargano siding with Ciampa means right now, the former left another little hint on Twitter this week that a reunion may be on the cards. While reflecting on his 2018 and looking forward to what 2019 might hold, Gargano signed off a tweet by writing "I will take over or I will diy trying." We see what you did there Johnny.

The intentional typo did not go unnoticed by the NXT Champion either. Ciampa took a screenshot of the tweet and wrote "I spy with my little eye a 'DIY'." If a reunion is indeed on the cards, we are all for it. A heel version of DIY could do some great work in NXT, and perhaps on the main roster too. Gargano and Ciampa versus Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has got match of the year candidate written all over it. Please make it happen, 2019.
