In what might be Johnny Gargano and Ricochet's best matches in NXT respectively, Gargano won the NXT North-American Championship.

Reactions to the match on social media didn't even do how strong a match these two competitors put on for the fans in Phoenix, Arizona. One comment on Twitter said, "Yeah.

Uhmm. Hi. 7 stars for this one .", while another said, "There’s no way Vince is aware what goes on during matches...he-would-die! These bumps are insanity." Even former WWE Superstar, Sean Waltman got in on the comments by saying, "I'm very grateful to not have come up in this era. I'd be screwed. The athletes in our industry now are amongst the very best walking the planet."

Ricochet and Gargano held absolutely nothing back. In moves that brought each to the brink, numerous close pins but escapes only added to the drama.

Gargano ultimately prevailed when he removed the matting outside the ring, dragged Ricochet outside and suplexed him onto the exposed concrete. He then dragged his prone opponent back in, waited for a groggy Ricochet to get back to his feet and delivered an over-the-top-rope DDT to get the pin and win the North-American title in an incredible match.

What This Means

Gargano was due, having been in so many high-profile matches but often not winning them. For Ricochet, the same question can be asked that was asked of Undisputed Era: is this the opening WWE was looking for to bring the acrobatic athlete up to the main roster and just in time for the Royal Rumble?

Ricochet is an amazing talent and to have him on the main roster would be a huge draw for WWE. The instant classic matches he could have with opponents like AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio would make any fan salivate. For Gargano, it seems he won't be getting a call-up anytime soon but could be getting a push with the title as one of NXT's big draws.
