As one of the contestants on the David vs. Goliath series of the show Survivor, professional wrestler Johnny Impact had to decide if he should tell the other contestants what he did for a living. Wondering how the other contestants might receive him as a professional wrestler, Impact admitted, the decision was not an easy one.

During a media teleconference hosted by Impact Wrestling, Johnny Impact discussed a number of topics and answered a variety of questions. One of those questions, asked by Cody from TheSportster, was how he juggled the decision to reveal what his real-life career when meeting the rest of the Survivor cast; especially when in the past, contestants in his position might have hidden their background.

Suggesting he knew telling people might put an unnecessary target on his back, he decided it was best to be upfront about who he was. He explained:

"That thought crossed my mind as far as going on the show, instead of saying I’m a professional wrestler, say that I was something else. But I decided it would be better for me to come clean — especially because there’s a lot of people that have seen me wrestle, and there’s probably a better than just a good chance that someone’s seen me wrestle anyway."

While it's hard to know whether the other contestants on the show were fans of professional wrestling, Johnny has appeared on television more than just appearing for Impact Wrestling. With a budding acting career, appearances on YouTube videos and other shows he's actively involved in, there might have been a good chance of being recognized. That separated him from other contestants in the past who had similar decisions to make.

"But I will say that in the past, there have been a lot of contestants, police officers do this a lot," he said.  Saying the idea is not to make yourself appear to be a threat on the show, he felt the better strategy was, to tell the truth, and reveal who he was. It is assumed, that strategy was intended to make him a trustworthy asset versus a dangerous threat.

He finished by saying:

"Going on the show, it would be better to be authentically myself and talk about pro wrestling, even if other contestants having the knowledge of me being a professional wrestler would put a target on my back or it might make me someone that they wanted to get rid of, but...I decided that was a risk I was going to take."

Survivor Season 37: David vs Goliath premieres on September 26, 2018.
