Jon Moxley is your new IWGP United States Champion following his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut on Wednesday morning.

The former WWE star has appeared at two shows since allowing his contract to expire with the company, firstly showing up at AEW's Double or Nothing last month and then introducing himself to NJPW in the grandest of fashions.

Moxley would receive effusive recognition from the crowd after making his entrance at the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, going on to face Juice Robinson for the aforementioned championship.

The competitors looked evenly matched throughout the match and they both put in their share of hurting on the other but, in the end, the new AEW star emerged as the victor, winning his first title since leaving WWE and adding another piece of silverware to his haul.

Mox also showed off a brand new finisher during the match, pulling off what's now known as the 'Death Rider' after Juice kicked out of his DDT.

The latter scored a Right Hand of God towards the culmination of the affair but Moxley was able to block an attempted Pulp Fiction, and he ultimately hit a Death Rider to end the match.

Moxley bowed to all four corners of the ring after being handed his belt. He then left to rapturous applause.

It's not clear what Moxley's future with NJPW will be like or whether he will be defending his title on AEW programming when the promotion starts off this fall.

Owner Tony Khan has confirmed that the star has a full-time deal with AEW but he will be allowed to compete elsewhere.

The 33-year-old is booked for AEW's Fyter Fest on June 29, where he will face Joey Janela. It's possible the IWGP United States Championship belt will be on the line then.
