Jose Mourinho was pretty critical of some his Manchester United players following their 4-1 International Champions Cup loss to Liverpool.

The beginning of the new Premier League season is now less than two weeks away and managers should really have an idea of the squad and even starting XI that will be playing in the first few games of the season, barring any injuries of course. Things are made a little harder this time around for teams with a lot of World Cup players as many of them are still on extended holidays.

That is just one of the many excuses Jose Mourinho is using when it comes to his Manchester United side. The Portuguese coach is not happy with how United has performed in pre-season and has been extremely vocal about that fact. The latest blow came on Saturday when the Red Devils lost 4-1 to Liverpool in the International Champions Cup, a pre-season tournament taking place in the United States.

There were a couple of players in particular that Mourinho singled out for criticism following the heavy defeat. One of those players was Anthony Martial. The Frenchman flew home for the birth of his first child last week, fair enough, but the United boss is not happy that following the baby's birth, Martial didn't return to the US tour. Mourinho also picked on Antonio Valencia, suggesting the defender has maybe had "too much holiday."

Mourinho didn't put down all of his squad. He was also quick to point out the fighting spirit of Eric Bailly. Even though the defender is still working through an injury, he apparently saw how inexperienced the back line was and insisted on playing the entire 90 minutes versus Liverpool. "He made a decision by himself not to let his team play with five kids in the back against Salah," Mourinho explained.

As always, it's hard to determine whether all is not well with Mourinho's team or if these are all just mind games, something the decorated coach has become well known for. Either way, he needs to be careful how he treats Martial in particular. The French forward has been linked with a move to Chelsea and if he feels unwanted and disrespected at Old Trafford because he wanted to spend time with his newborn baby, then he may very well push through with that move.
