Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is in the lineup for Thursday's game with Single-A Dunedin, and giving the team one more chance at trading him before Friday's deadline, per Sportsnet.

Donaldson returned to the lineup on Tuesday, but he was supposed to miss Wednesday's game with a nagging calf/leg injury. However, that game was rained out, giving Donaldson the chance to play and showcase himself one last time to a team that may want to trade for the 2015 AL MVP.

It's been a frustrating and very strange sequence of events for Donaldson and the Blue Jays over the past few months. He last played for the Jays on May 28, but missed three months of action with a calf injury. Toronto only has until Friday night to work out a deal for Donaldson, but he can't be traded if he's still injured.

The Blue Jays probably won't earn much in a potential trade for Donaldson, given his injury-plagued season and the fact he's a free agent in the winter. But it'd be better than losing him for nothing, and they have a slight chance of trading the soon-to-be 33-year-old before time runs out.

Before the 2018 season started, Donaldson told reporters that he and the Blue Jays weren't in the "same ball park," during contract talks. As such, it's more likely than not he's playing his final days with the team.

In 36 games this season, Donaldson is batting .234 with five home runs, 16 RBI and an OPS of .757. Those aren't great stats, but a healthy Donaldson could be the final piece for a playoff team's championship puzzle. He's one of the game's top all-around hitters and plays Gold Glove-caliber defense at third base.

The Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees have been mentioned as possible suitors for Donaldson. At this point, the Blue Jays will probably take anything they can get for him, so we'll see how it plays out over the next 30 or so hours.
