Kaitlyn will return to WWE this summer.
According to WWE.com, the former Divas Champion as the first of 32 entrants for the upcoming Mae Young Classic tournament.
Signed to a developmental contract by the WWE in 2010, Kaitlyn went to train in Florida Championship Wrestling and would later be named as part of the NXT season three cast. She would go on to win the season, and Kaitlyn was hence named the "Breakout Diva" for that year.
It'll be Kaitlyn's first match for WWE in four years. Her final match was against AJ Lee in 2014, as Kaitlyn opted to leave the squared circle while claiming she wanted to focus more on her personal life and work on launching a clothing line.
And the Mae Young Classic is the perfect time to bring back Kaitlyn and former WWE female talents. The event was first launched last year to honor the late Young, a Hall of Famer and former NWA Women's Champion.
The Mae Young Classic features 32 female superstars (from both NXT and the independent circuit), compete in a single knockout format. Kairi Sane - who currently works in NXT - won the event last year after pinning MMA fighter Shayna Baszler (also working in NXT right now).
Kaitlyn held the Divas Championship for 153 days — capturing it on the Jan. 14, 2013 episode of Raw after defeating Eve Torres. However, AJ Lee would defeat Kaitlyn at Payback to win the Divas Championship. The latter would never regain WWE championship gold again.
Kaitlyn's return will most likely be a one-off as she continues to succeed in the independent circuit. It's also unlikely WWE books her to win the Mae Young Classic, as it would make more sense to have an NXT talent win it all instead.
But given Kaitlyn's extreme popularity during her time in the ring, it'll be exciting enough for WWE fans to see the former champion return to the ring - at least one more time.
