Kalisto recently opened up about his depression. Considering what he went through, anyone would have struggled had they been in his shoes.

Behind the scenes, wrestling has historically been known as being quite dark. The drug use, the various ways wrestlers cope with life on the road, performers dying way before their time. Thankfully, that side of the business has become less commonplace in today's locker rooms. Life as a wrestler can still be pretty tough, though.

Wrestling or not, you can never truly know what someone is going through. People can put on a brave face but once no one is watching, who knows what is happening. Take Roman Reigns, for instance. The Big Dog's announcement that he is suffering with leukemia, and not for the first time, hit most WWE fans like a bomb. It instantly changed how most of the WWE Universe reacts to him.

During a recent appearance on The Steve Austin Show, Kalisto opened up about a dark time in his life right before signing for WWE. The luchador comes across as one of the happiest guys on the roster alongside Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado. Right now, he might very well be, but that wasn't always the case. Before he got the call from WWE, Kalisto was planning on quitting the business following a run of extremely bad luck.

"I was telling my wife, ‘I’m done. That’s it. I’ll try to get my job back and we’ll make it work’," Kalisto told Austin and his listeners. That decision came after he suffered a serious injury in the ring and both of his parents had heart attacks. All of that happening at once unsurprisingly sent him into a depression. His plan was to sell all of his gear at the last show he was booked on, Expo Lucha.

The weekend of Expo Lucha, WWE called Kalisto and wanted to give him a tryout. The rest is history as the former United States Champion has been a WWE Superstar ever since. Clearly, WWE's call couldn't have come at a better time. Signing for the company snapped him out of his depression and what will hopefully be the worst period of his life. Now, let's pick a show for Lucha House Party and stick to it WWE. We like them and want to know where they stand.
