Glenn Jacobs, better known as Kane in wrestling circles, has won the race to become mayor of Know County, Tennessee.

The worlds of professional wrestling and politics are not two that many people likely imagine having any crossover at all. On the contrary, the two spheres merge more than you might realize. Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota during the 1990s, Rhyno has dabbled in politics in his home state of Michigan, and let's not forget that the current President of the United States is a WWE Hall Of Famer.

Well, he might not be President, but Glenn Jacobs is now a US politician. For those of you who don't know who Glenn Jacobs is, perhaps you'll recognize the name Kane. That's right, on Thursday of this week The Big Red Machine was elected mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. It has been a long and tough road for the WWE Champion, but one that has ended in success.

Earlier this year Jacobs went up against fellow Republican candidate, Brad Anders in the primary for the right to run for mayor. That vote was an extremely close run thing as Jacobs won the primary by just 23 votes. The election itself was not so nail-biting. The WWE Superstar was far more popular than his Democratic adversary, earning almost twice as many votes with the final count coming in at 51,804 versus 26,224.

While the residents of Knox County are hopefully in good hands, wrestling fans will likely be wondering what this means for Jacobs' wrestling character, Kane. Kane wrestled as recently as July of this year, losing to the Bludgeon Brothers alongside Daniel Bryan as one half of Team Hell No. Perhaps that was his way of saying goodbye to in-ring competition in case his mayoral campaign was a successful one.

What seems unlikely is that Jacobs/Kane will be able to find the time to wrestle along with all of his newfound mayoral duties, nor will he likely want to considering the position of power he is now in. It's a very real possibility that after more than two decades in the ring, we might very well have seen the last of Kane the wrestler and will now have to settle for Glenn Jacobs the mayor.
