According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Karl Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to terms on a five-year, $190 million supermax contract extension.

While Jimmy Butler seems to want to do anything he can to get out of the Timberwolves organization, Towns mentioned in a statement, "On June 25, 2015, I was drafted to and committed to the Minnesota Timberwolves. On September 22, 2018, I made a recommitment to the Wolves and have the same feelings of excitement that I felt back in 2015.

He thanked the fans for believing in him and Towns said his plan to help keep the vision of Flip Saunders (the man who drafted Towns) going in Minnesota.

Michael Scotto of The Athletic reported the new deal does not contain a player option and noted that Towns isn't immediately eligible for the full supermax even though he garnered All-NBA honors this past season. But, according to ESPN.com's Zach Lowe, the Timberwolves "can write that contingency into his extension, guaranteeing him the supermax if he qualifies."

If Towns doesn’t meet the super-max criteria, his new deal would start at 25% of the cap rather than 30%. Should that happen, he could be looking at yearly numbers that range from $27.25 million to $35.97 million per season. Should Towns qualify, the annual cap hits would increase to between $32.7 million and $43.16 million per season. The total difference could be more than $30 million over the length of the deal.

Towns has been a star for the Timberwolves over the past three seasons. Minnesota picked him No. 1 overall in the 2015 draft, and he made an immediate impact averaging 18.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in his rookie season and winning the 2015-16 Rookie of the Year award. By the time his third year had rolled around, he had upped those totals to a scoring average of 21.3 points and helped the Timberwolves clinch their first playoff spot since 2004.

If nothing else, this deal suggests Butler is certainly heading out of town. A report this week suggested that Towns had clashed with the unhappy star and was holding off on signing an extension until he knew Butler's future with the team.
