Peter Yannopoulos of RDS is reporting that Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard bought a new house in the city, a possible sign that he's ready to commit his long-term future to his new team.

Now, Leonard obviously has millions in the bank and was in good position to buy an expensive home, even if it's only for a year. But it's very common for professional athletes to only rent places, especially if they're unsure about their long-term future in the city they play in.

As such, some Raptors fans have good reason to be optimistic that the two-time Defensive Player of the Year will sign a long-term deal with Toronto. Leonard is entering the final year of his contract, and it's well-known that he has a desire to sign with the hometown Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers in 2019.

Toronto is the only team that can sign Leonard to the five-year super max worth $190 million. Otherwise, a four-year contract worth $141 million is the most a new team can give him. Taking all of that into account, there is plenty the Raptors can offer to entice Leonard to avoid free agency and re-sign long-term.

Leonard joins a Raptors team that led the Eastern Conference with 59 wins last season. Even though it was the best regular season in their history, the Raptors were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs. That sparked Masai Ujiri to make changes, which included the firing of head coach Dwane Casey, and the bold decision to trade for Leonard.

Leonard wanted out of the San Antonio Spurs organization after a falling out with coaches and players, and the Raptors stepped forward to bring him over. If they can emerge as a title contender and show Leonard the respect he seemingly didn't get from the Spurs, then re-signing him to the maximum certainly is a possibility. Raptors fans can only hope he learns to love the city and franchise immediately.
