One of the biggest indy stars in wrestling, Kenny Omega talks about the one reason he might consider WWE, and his reasoning should have fans excited. While there's not an indication a deal is currently in the works, before he retires, Omega wants to face AJ Styles at WrestleMania.

The interview where Omega reveals this tidbit is a bit older, but the idea of why Omega might consider WWE as an option is timely as WWE approaches WrestleMania 35. For Omega and Styles (the wrestler he wants to face), there is a window of opportunity that may be closing as speculation is that Styles is already contemplating retirement on a year-by-year basis while Omega is still at the top of his game but getting older. During an interview with Dave Meltzer and Brian Alvarez in 2017, Omega said:

"The main reason I would go to WWE is because I would love to have a match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania. If I’m being truthful, before AJ hangs it up, and before I start to degenerate as an athlete, I really want to have a big match with him on the biggest stage possible, so that is a career goal of mine."

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com) also recently reported that WWE made Kenny Omega a "fantastic offer" ahead of his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13 and speculation is that Omega could be open to signing with WWE as his contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling reportedly expires sometime in January.

What This Means

While the idea of Styles vs Omega at WrestleMania 35 would be huge for wrestling fans, this isn't a certainty. First, WWE will likely have competition to sign Omega in the form of All Elite Wrestling, which is run by fellow Elite members Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks. Second, Omega has stated often his reluctance to sign with WWE based on the restrictions he feels the company puts on its superstars.

Could Omega overlook the temptation to keep more control over his wrestling future and sign with WWE for that one match he wants and a very big payday? If it's going to happen, now might be the time.
