As Of Today, Kenny Omega Is Officially A Free Agent

At midnight on February 2, 2019, Kenny Omega's New Japan contract came to an end. That means he is now officially a free agent, for now.

Ever since All Elite Wrestling officially became a real thing on New Year's Day, fans have been speculating as to who might join up with the promotion. So far, Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks have managed to land stars such as MJF, PAC, and even Chris Jericho. There is currently something of a white whale in the wrestling world, though.

That white whale is Kenny Omega. Amid AEW's initial announcements, Omega informed the wrestling world that once his current New Japan deal came to an end, he would not be signing a new one. Rumors have also been rife that WWE has been doing everything in its power to land The Cleaner. Rhodes and The Bucks turned Vince McMahon down, but has the former IWGP World Champion followed suit?

Well, we will hopefully find out very soon. That's because as the clock struck midnight and February 1 became February 2, Omega's New Japan contract came to an end. That means the man being touted as the hottest free agent in wrestling today is now officially a free agent. At the time of typing this, there has been no announcement as to what's next, but you would have to think it is coming soon.

The most likely outcome is Omega ends up joining his close friends at AEW. The latest episode of Being The Elite hinted at that, and we could have an answer as soon as next week. That's because, on February 7, AEW is holding a Double Or Nothing ticket announcement party at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. New signings have been promised for the event, plus a surprise special guest. Could that special guest be Omega?

2019 has already been an extremely exciting one for wrestling and as we head into WrestleMania season, that excitement shows no sign of slowing down. Omega pledging his allegiance to any promotion is going to be big news no matter what he decides to do. WWE will have offered him a lucrative contract, without question, but have Mr. McMahon and Triple H done enough to persuade him to join the dark side?
