Kenny Omega is still the AAA Mega Champion after beating Loredo Kid at Triplemania XXVIII.

Western wrestling fans who had heard all sorts of good stuff about Kenny Omega's work in Japan were understandably excited when he signed on with AEW. For the most part, fans outside of Japan have seen either nothing of Omega's work outside the US or the handful of big matches he had in NJPW against the likes of Kazuchika Okada and Chris Jericho.

As we approach the second anniversary of when AEW was first announced, American fans are yet to see very much of that. However, The Cleaner's actions over the course of the last two months, and particularly what he has done during the past two weeks, finally signify that we're getting the Omega we've been waiting for.

Not only the terrific heel work he has been doing, but proof that he is one of the hardest workers in wrestling. Omega has appeared for three different promotions this week. Impact on Tuesday, AEW on Wednesday, and last night he competed for AAA at Triplemania XXVIII. Omega has been the Mexican promotion's Mega Champion since October of 2019. Since he is now AEW Champion, it would have made sense for him to lose the title to Loredo Kid this weekend.

That didn't happen. The pair put on a predictably terrific match which ended with Omega performing his One-Winged Angel to defeat Loredo Kid. However, that might not have happened had his AEW buddy Michael Nakazawa not intervened earlier in the match. It would appear that Omega has someone to help him fight his battles no matter where he goes right now.

Omega remaining AAA Mega Champion not only means he has surpassed the reign of AEW's Fenix, the man he defeated for the title, but he is also the second longest-reigning Mega Champion ever. Omega will need to keep a hold of the title for another 315 days if he wants to become the longest-reigning Mega Champion ever. Considering the state of the world right now, and how little he wrestles for AAA, there's a very real chance we see that happen.
