Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne suffered a knee injury in training this week which may sideline him for up to four months.

The Premier League officially got underway last weekend and we got our first glimpse into what we can expect for the upcoming season. Liverpool's new look squad eased to victory against West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur's unchanged one scraped past Newcastle United, and Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea put a turbulent transfer window behind them via a 3-0 win versus Huddersfield Town.

The biggest tie of the weekend, however, came on Sunday afternoon when defending champions Manchester City took on Arsenal. It has been a period of change for Arsenal unlike one the club has experienced for a long time what with Arsene Wenger leaving the team after 22 years in charge. The North London side did give a good showing however, eventually lost out 2-0 to Pep Guardiola's men.

Despite beginning the season with a win, Man City has already been dealt a heavy blow. Star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne suffered a knee injury during training this week. Sources close to the Belgian have reportedly informed Sky Sports that even though the specifics of the problem are yet to be revealed, he could be out for as long as four months. That would mean he'd miss key games against the likes of Liverpool, Spurs, and even the first Manchester derby of the season on November 11, 2018.

De Bruyne didn't start in the victory versus Arsenal on Sunday and has only recently returned to Man City training. That's because the Belgian was given an extended holiday following his nation's run at the World Cup, making it all the way to the semifinals. Unfortunately, the short time he was on the pitch at the weekend may be the last we see of him until nearly Christmas.

Even though De Bruyne is unquestionably one of Man City's most talented players, luckily the Premier League Champions have one of the deepest squads in Europe. There are plenty of hungry stars who will be praying that they get a chance to fill that spot left empty by De Bruyne for the next few months. Man City's title rivals may be jumping for joy at the news of De Bruyne's injury, but it will be nothing more than a bump in the road for Guardiola's men.
