Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant could be the most sought-after free agent this summer, and the two-time NBA Champion has a simple plan should he decide to hit the open market.

No fancy pitches. No special meetings. No talking to other All-Stars about forming a super team. For Durant, the two goals are simple: Make as much money as he can and simply play the game he loves.

"I just want to make sure I get as much money as I can on my next deal so I can stack up my money and figure it out," Durant said on the Posted Up with Chris Haynes podcast, via Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports. "That's just the plan. Play basketball and stack money."

Even though Durant has opted out of his last couple of contracts to re-sign with the Warriors on one-and-one deals, it's widely believed that he will at least consider other teams. The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers have been widely mentioned as potential landing spots for the league's second-best player.

Durant hasn't offered any hints as to what he might do in the offseason. But following a heated confrontation with teammate Draymond Green (after a road loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in November), some wonder if it's a sign that Durant is ready to leave Golden State.

If he hits free agency, Durant will enter a market that could also include other superstars such as Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard and Klay Thompson - though most of those stars are expected to re-sign with their respective teams.

Though Durant already has two championships with Golden State (a third is likely on the way), it's very possible he decides to simply look for a new challenge in the next chapter of his career. Durant could be the franchise savior of a long-struggling Knicks franchise, or perhaps on the big market Lakers or Clippers.

What This Means

If Durant simply wants to get paid in his next contract, it's unlikely that he would sign another one-and-one deal. That means Durant will likely devote his long-term future to the team that wins the KD sweepstakes in free agency.

There's absolutely no guarantee that Durant stays with the Warriors, so 2019 free agency could be one of the most intriguing in years.
