Kofi Kingston's time has come. The New Day member has been handed a shot at the WWE Championship and will face current holder, The New Daniel Bryan, at the upcoming Fastlane PPV.

Kingston, who has been one of the hardest workers in the business for a number of years, is also one of the most skillful ring performers in the WWE.

The Ghana-born star was named as Mustafa Ali's Elimination Chamber replacement on last week's SmackDown Live. And, on Sunday, he put on quite the show, having registered an amazing performance in a Gauntlet match a few days prior. Although he did not claim a victory at Elimination Chamber, Kingston saw the fans get in his corner like never before.

He is now set to take on Bryan at Fastlane on April 7 and, while he stopped short of making promises, the 37-year-old couldn't hide his excitement after the announcement was made on Tuesday night.

"I can't make any guarantees, but what I've said before is when you stay ready, you ain't got to get ready. And I've been ready for a long time, 11 years," he told Sarah Schreiber.

"I've been waiting for opportunities like this. Words cannot even describe how hyped I am right now. All my life, all I've ever wanted was a shot, a chance. And finally, at Fastlane, I'm gonna get that chance one more time. Man, I can't wait!

"It's not Valentine's Day anymore, but we still feeling the love, it's great. Like I said before, I feel like everybody has my back."

Turning to his New Day brothers, Kofi said he owed it all to them, a notion they instantly dismissed, claiming that they're only coming along for the ride.

What This Means

Despite never holding one of the WWE's major belts, Kofi is still a decorated performer. The New Day star has won four Intercontinental titles, three United States Championships and seven tag team titles across Raw and SmackDown.

That he's finally getting the recognition he deserves is quite satisfying, as far as the WWE Universe is concerned, and you can bet that the majority will be rooting for him to come out on top against the new, annoying heel that is Daniel Bryan.
