A week removed from being named SmackDown's No.1 contender, Kofi Kingston has been replaced by Kevin Owens, who is now set to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE title at Fastlane on March 10.

The high-flying New Day member was overjoyed, having finally gotten a shot at a major belt off the back of his impressive Elimination Chamber performance earlier this month. But he's now on the outside looking in after Tuesday night's episode of SmackDown Live.

This does seem like all doom and gloom at first glance, but it's actually where Kofi wants to be right now as there's hardly any doubt that Bryan is going into WrestleMania as champion.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer, Kingston's growing fanbase should have nothing to fear, given that it's now likely that the New Day star will be heading to WrestleMania instead.

“It appears that they flip-flopped Kevin Owens and Kofi Kingston. Because it was very clear that they’re going to do Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston and if they’re not gonna do it at Fastlane and Kevin Owens is getting the shot at Fastlane then that probably means that Kofi Kingston is getting the shot at Mania," Meltzer explained (h/t Ringside News).

"So that’s changed again in the last week because Kevin Owens was the one getting the shot at Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania in the original plans. So maybe they didn’t wanna beat Kofi Kingston and because of the way the plans were if Daniel Bryan fought Kofi Kingston they would have to beat Kofi Kingston so maybe they wanna put Kofi Kingston over?”

Meltzer added that the 37-year-old could be reinserted for a triple threat match which would see both him and Owens challenge Bryan for the title.

What This Means

Kingston currently has a huge wave of support behind him and this latest development will only serve to fuel that. The WWE is well aware that something needs to give and will likely have Kingston repay that fan support with an exciting run to WrestleMania.
