WWE ratings have decreased significantly in recent weeks, it's forced Vince McMahon and company to introduce new changes to the product.

On this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE Chairman introduced a new "wild card rule," which allows four superstars from Raw to appear on SmackDown each week. On the other side, four SmackDown talents will be eligible to show up on Raw every week.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio said this change was made because NBCUniversal and Fox are pushing WWE to try and fix their ratings problems. With that, it's safe to say the wild card storyline won't be the only major change WWE brings in the immediate future.

As SmackDown Live prepares to move to Friday nights in October - when Fox begins its broadcasting deal - one might wonder if the show would expand to three hours. Kofi Kingston did an interview with Vicente Beltran (h/t Wrestlezone) and explained why he thinks it'd be a good idea to add another hour to SmackDown shows.

"For me, the more wrestling on TV, the better. More people will get opportunities to be on TV...So I think that if we were to get another hour, I don’t know if that’s going to happen or not, but it would definitely provide an opportunity for guys who deserve to be on TV, it would provide a chance for them to be able to show what they can do."

It's certainly an interesting idea and proposal. That said, many fans and pundits believe Monday Night Raw is too long, where lackluster matches and storylines are thrown in to help take up the three hours.

SmackDown Live is managed well, and the writers don't seem to be pressed for time there. The main talents all get their promos and matches in, so adding an extra hour may not be necessary. But if WWE continues to feel the heat on fixing its ratings problems, then they might decide adding that extra hour.

What This Means

It'll be interesting to see what changes happen on SmackDown Live once Fox takes over in five months. The first major switch was moving the show to Friday nights, but expanding it to an extra hour doesn't seem out of the question.
