The New Day's loss on Raw this week was the first match Kofi Kingston has been on the losing side of since before he became WWE Champion.

Fans are currently pretty split over how Kofi Kingston's WWE Title run has gone so far. While most can agree that Kingston as champion is a great decision, how he is being used hasn't pleased everyone. He may well be fighting off all comers, but he hasn't exactly been challenged by an established World Title competitor. Roman Reigns perhaps, or maybe even Brock Lesnar.

Nevertheless, Kingston has been booked as a winner since WrestleMania. Hopefully, WWE is building to a marquee match for him at SummerSlam. Sadly, he won't have gone unbeaten between then and WrestleMania. That might seem like a strange thing to say unprompted, but up until this week's Raw, Kingston was on that path.

Three weeks before WrestleMania, Kingston lost in the last round of a gauntlet match to Daniel Bryan. He thankfully got his revenge on April 7, 2019, and the rest is history. However, did you know that since then, Kingston hadn't lost a single match? That includes tag team matches alongside his New Day partners and also six successful WWE Championship defenses.

Sadly, on Monday night, Samoa Joe put an end to that streak. What's even more annoying is it was in a match that Kingston wasn't even supposed to be a part of. Xavier Woods and Big E were taking on The Viking Raiders when Joe ran in and attacked them. That prompted Kingston to make the save and a six-person tag match broke out. It ended with Kingston being choked out by Joe for the win.

Even though the streak is over, and we are big fans of Joe, we hope this isn't a precursor for Extreme Rules. The Samoan Submission Machine will get his shot at Kingston's WWE Title at the upcoming PPV. Considering the popularity of Kingston as WWE Champion, we can't imagine him losing the title just yet. Then again, with WWE going through a transitional phase, pretty much anything could happen in the coming weeks.
