It's been over six years since CM Punk left the WWE, and the former World Champion hasn't wrestled ever since.

There have been nonstop rumors and reports about CM Punk possibly re-signing with WWE, but nothing has come to be. When he joined WWE Backstage on FS1, it provided a glimmer of hope that he would return to the ring. That obviously never materialized.

Some fans even wondered if CM Punk would sign with the new AEW promotion. The company has recruited several WWE legends to work for them (including Chris Jericho, Jim Ross and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts), after all.

On the On the Keepin' It 100 podcast (h/t Karan Bedi of Sportskeeda.com), Impact Wrestling and MLW wrestler Konnan revealed that when he spoke to AEW about possibly working together, they expressed interest in working with CM Punk.

But Konan explained that AEW and CM Punk never reached a deal because the latter was apparently seeking for a giant payday.

"I do remember when I was negotiating with AEW, and they were telling me about him," Konnan said. "They were telling me that he was asking for like an astronomical amount of money. They really wanted to work with him."

It should be noted that during a Reddit AMA segment back in October, CM Punk was asked about coming back to WWE. Punk explained that it would "have to be a very big bag" in order for him to return. Presumably, he was talking about a large amount of dollars.

Back in March, Dave Meltzer explained that Vince McMahon views CM Punk as the "one man I just can’t do business with." But for what it's worth, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have expressed interest in working with both CM Punk and his wife, A.J. Lee, again.

CM Punk Would Have Been A Game Changer For AEW

At the end of the day, CM Punk is one of the most accomplished, marketed and beloved wrestlers of this era. He's more than deserving of a major payday. The former World Champion could have been a major addition to the AEW roster, and he would have helped put the promotion on the map even more. Imagine what CM Punk could do on a roster that's already loaded with several wrestling legends. Perhaps AEW or WWE will have a greater interest in bringing back CM Punk one day.
