He says he'll be back as soon as he's able but it's being reported Kristaps Porzingis could miss the entire NBA season with a torn ACL injury.

Porzingis says his knee is feeling good and he’s doing light running and shooting, but unfortunately for the New York Knicks, there is no timetable yet on his return. He says he spent ‘productive days with Knicks coach David Fizdale in Latvia and that's he's wanting to get back with the team but Porzingis also told reporters "it's hard to say" whether he will miss the 2018-19 season as he recovers.

"I'm getting itchy, and I want to be back on the court as soon as possible. But it won't happen until I am 110 percent and medically cleared," he said during the Knicks media day on Monday. Questions about his health were bound to be asked after he Porzingis suffered a torn ACL in February. Without Porzingis, the Knicks are not very good and really don't stand a chance in the NBA's Eastern Conference.

But, while missing Porzingis for any length of time is not great news, it's not all bad either.

In New York, there's a perceived change happening that includes the team going after some of the biggest free agents available on the market next summer and of those rumored to be secure in their jobs, only Porzingis, Kevin Knox and the team's 2019 first-round pick seem to be safe from speculation.

It could be this change that has the Knicks not putting any real sense of urgency on their star. If the Knicks miss the playoffs, their draft pick is just that much higher and the team can start fresh in 2019-20.

Knicks coach David Fizdale said of Porzingis, "he's the future of the NBA." He added, "He fits all of the qualities of a megastar and a guy who can really propel a franchise forward to high places." Fizdale might be right as Porzingis averaged 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per night in 48 games during the 2017-18 season.
