Kurt Angle Says Durable John Cena Is WWE's GOAT

The recently retired Kurt Angle has declared that John Cena is the "Greatest WWE superstar of all time".

That's pretty high praise from a man who is quite decorated himself and who's also faced many of the greats the company has had on show.

Angle, who wrestled his last match at WrestleMania 35 in a defeat to Baron Corbin earlier this month, took to Instagram to wish Cena a happy birthday over the weekend and paid some major respect to the 16-time champion, calling him the most consistent performer the business has ever seen and rating him as WWE's GOAT.

"17 years ago, I recall when a young John Cena took WWE by storm," Angle wrote. "Even then, John pushed me to my limit. I absolutely Loved stepping into the ring with him. John has been able to stay healthy (for the most part) and dominate WWE for 17 years, which is unheard of, and nearly impossible.

"For that reason, He will go down in history as the most consistent, and the Greatest WWE Superstar of all time. Happy belated birthday John. You earned my respect the first time we locked horns."

Cena made his WWE TV debut on an episode of SmackDown on which he answered Angle's open challenge. The two have had some great moments in the ring since then.

What This Means

This is certainly a great gesture from Angle, especially given his own status as a wrestler. Perhaps he views longevity as something which should be admired as his career was plagued by injuries, and understandably so.

Yet there are many who would disagree, especially longtime fans who were lucky to see greats like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan do their thing in the ring, while younger fans will probably view Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the greatest WWE performer of all time.

At the end of the day, though, it's all down to opinion. And Angle seems to be convinced that Cena's career, to date, is the benchmark for success in WWE.
