WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle revealed Baron Corbin as is opponent for WrestleMania 35, which led to plenty of fan backlash almost immediately.

The fans in attendance at Monday Night Raw booed heavily when Angle made the big announcement, while legendary WWE commentator Jim Ross called the match choice "underwhelming."

But there is good news for the fans that are against this match. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), the fans' negative reaction could force WWE to replace Corbin with somebody else.

"My gut tells me they’re probably going to change it, Alvarez said. "They may put John Cena in there — which is the match it should be. But as of yesterday, this was their idea. Kurt Angle vs Baron Corbin."

Dave Meltzer was one of the first to suggest that John Cena could be an opponent for Angle in his retirement match. Meltzer later reported that Angle and Cena could actually team up at WrestleMania, with Corbin, Samoa Joe and Bobby Lashley among the possible opponents.

Also, Justin LaBar reported that Angle and Corbin will not be facing off at WrestleMania, but that this is all a ploy so that fans "appreciate the actual match they will get."

So with that, fans probably don't have to worry about Angle facing the former constable of Raw - the one man that the Olympic Gold medalist said he wanted to really beat in his sendoff match. We now patiently wait and see who Angle will really end up facing on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Fans and pundits aren't necessarily against Baron Corbin as a superstar, and his power struggle with Angle was one of the better storylines last year. But Angle is a Hall of Famer, and fans simply want a more established superstar to face him in the final match of his legendary career.

WWE still has plenty of matches to be finalized on the card, and they haven't even started the buildup for some of these fights yet. This only adds to more anticipation as to whom Angle will go up against, and fans can only hope that WWE will make the proper opponent choice.

What This Means

Well, the McMahon family did promise at the end of 2018 that they would make plenty of changes and give the fans what they wanted. Perhaps they sensed the fan discontent immediately after announcing the Angle-Corbin match, which is why they may have to turn to a plan B. We'll find out soon enough which superstar truly gets the honor of facing the Olympic gold medalist in his final match.
