Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving apparently thinks his team needs some more help and has urged them to bring a veteran player in this season.

The Celtics are a pretty young team with a very bright future, providing they stay together. But Kyrie has implied that an experienced head could be what they need amid their worrying form.

Speaking after the side's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, their fourth defeat in the last five games, the former Cleveland Cavaliers star seemed to hint that the team should pursue Carmelo Anthony.

"Right now I think it would be nice if we had someone that was a 15-year vet, a 14-year vet that could kind of help us race along the regular season and understand it’s a long marathon rather than just a full-on sprint," Irving said in quotes cited by Boston Globe reporter Adam Himmelsbach.

Rumors of Anthony getting cut from the Houston Rockets have been rife since the weekend. And several reporters have intimated that the 10-time All-Star has already played his last game for the Western Conference side, now a shadow of the team that won a league-high 65 regular season games and made it to the conference finals last season.

So Irving didn't say: "Hey, let's go sign Melo," but it would be hard to dismiss the thought as the ex-Syracuse man does fit the description.

One would have thought that Al Horford, who is playing his 12th season in the league was veteran enough for any team. But he's off by a few years still, judging from Kyrie's estimation.

Irving has also echoed head coach Brad Stevens' earlier sentiments, claiming the Celtics simply aren't as good as they think they are.

"We needed this [loss]," he also said after the game. "We're not as good as we think we are. That's really what it comes down to. The excitement is done. It's just real basketball now. It's not the potential of the team or where we'll be at the end of the season. It's right now and taking care of what's in front of us."

Would Carmelo be of any help, though? The Rockets would probably be too happy to find out.
